The Colorado Rapids hosted an MLS WORKS Special Olympics Unified Match on Saturday night. After Columbus Crew SC and the Rapids played at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Special Olympics teams from Colorado and Ohio played against each other on the same field. There were two 15-minute halves with a five-minute halftime. Colorado ended up winning 1-0, but it was a fun evening enjoyed by all. The two teams had a social event on Friday night in Denver, where they played games, ate dinner and got to know each other. Ohio’s team was greeted back at the hotel by Crew SC Sporting Director & Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. He also gave them a pre-match speech at the hotel on Saturday. Ohio’s team got to go for a pre-match walk at Red Rocks on Saturday morning, and were surprised with personalized, official Crew SC, Acura-branded jerseys ahead of the game. This event was made possible by MLS WORKS, Acura and MAPFRE Insurance, as part of Crew SC’s “Give Forward” program.
